Phew! The holidays are over! Now, don’t get me wrong, I do love the holidays, but the older I get, the more relieved I am by the time they are over.
But, if you are wondering, here it is, in a nutshell:
The Eve of Christmas Eve (or December 23rd for those who do not speak Rhiannon) – spent baking 6 batches of cookies (Russian Teacakes, Potato Chip Cookies (2 batches), Snickerdoodles, Regular Chocolate Chip, and White Chocolate Chip. YUM – cookies were delivered with love to neighbors on either side of us. I decided against walking down the street to deliver to our Topless Margarita Bringing Neighbor, as I am lazy and did not want to walk back up the hill in the rain.
Christmas Eve – Went to Church in the morning, and, my mom joined us. We came home and my Grandparent’s and Brother (avec Girlfriend) arrived shortly thereafter. Now, what happened next could ONLY be described as amazing. We served coffee, opened presents, ate lunch and dessert (which I prepared BOTH of) in just under two hours. I could not believe it. I made Zane bow to me in worship. Then, in a Rachael Ray-ish way, I proceeded to toss together delicious stuffing. After said stuffing was prepared, we hightailed it over to my other Grandma’s house – had dinner, opened presents and arrived home at 11:30.
Christmas Day – We rose at 5:00 a.m. to make it to the airport by six for our flight to Orange County. I consumed mimosas on the plane and that delights me. Zane rented us a fancy car (airconditioned seats!) and we drive to his mom’s house. After breakfast there (this, mind you is in addition to the breakfast I ate on the plane) we opened even MORE presents. Now, here is where it gets weird – we go to see a movie – I have NEVER done this before. Prior to the movie, Zane shows me the beach where there are people SURFING and wearing SHORTS. WTF?? Side note: Do NOT go see Night at the Museum. The only thing I enjoyed about that movie was a wee Owen Wilson. I actually kind of wished I had seen the movie pre-Christmas, then I would have asked he be put in my stocking.
While in California, we celebrated Zane’s big 4-0 with his family. Also, we went to Ikea. Upon our return home, I began my new job. Wheee!!! Finally!
In our next installment: New Year’s Eve Eve, Zane’s birthday (New Year’s Eve), New Year’s Day, and Photos!!
