Dear Seattle
Dear Seattle,
There are a few things I’d like to have a talk with you about. Now, I like you very much. So much so, that I used to live here (except I was seven and really had no choice). But really, you are lovely, and I hope you’ll take these items as constructive criticism. Which I only give to people, um places that I love.
Number 1 – I suggest you get some sort of light rail system that I can take from the airport to downtown. In Portland, I can get downtown, from the airport for less than two dollars.
Here, I had to pay $11 to have a crabby lady take me downtown on a bus. I did not care for this. Especially the part where she let one passenger on board and then began to leave. And, then some other passenger (not me) had to chase after her (the bus) to let the rest of us on.
Number 2 – I will not be parking a car today, but I noticed that on the streets that I traveled down you have old-fashioned parking meters. Chances are, if I were to park a car on your fine streets, I would not have any change. Which is why Smart Meters, like my beloved Portland has a great idea.
Number 3 – I see that you are building an H&M. I would have liked this to be open during this visit.
Number 4 – and this is really directed at Washington as a whole. I’m not a fan of the sales tax. Now, technically, all I have to do is show my drivers license here, and it is waived, but sometimes I forget. And, then I am crabby about paying an extra how ever much for my whatever it is I am buying.
That is all. I hope for the next 12 hours that I am here, you and I can get along swimmingly.
UPDATED TO ADD:
Seattle has redeemed itself!
LOOK WHO I MET!!
A lovely mall visitor saw us looking totally dorky taking photos of ourselves and offered to take our picture.
Updated also to add:
Number 5 – In Portland? Our airport has free wi-fi. Perhaps that is why it is continuously voted the best airport in the U.S.? Anyway, your wi-fi is 7.99 for 24 hours. That is $7.99 too much. Especially when I am paying for airport beers.
Now, I’ve been up for 19 hours and shall go to sleep.
Smoochies,
Rhiannon

Isabel! Hurrah!
(I so do not miss the sales tax. Living in Oregon has such great perks.)
24. June - 10:05 pmYou two are such lovely ladies. Also, I almost bought the jacket that you’re sporting there.
24. June - 10:13 pmBoo Seattle!!
But unfortunately Salt Lake has most of those same problems (accept H&M??? I don’t know what that is, so I guess we don’t have one). So when you come to visit me, you probably won’t be happy.
25. June - 5:35 amAll airports should have free wi-fi. Austin does not, but Vegas does. As does Phoneix and Denver (yes, I know all the aiports that do because I’m a gigantic dork).
25. June - 5:55 amWe have the smart meters. I can’t believe you didn’t see any. Be assured…we have them.
And we’re working on the light rail to/from the airport. There is a bus. But it takes forever and is ghetto. Of course that’s what I use.
And dude…WE GOT TO MET. IN REAL LIFE. And you are cute and sassy and have pretty clothes. (And GOOD hair.)
Please come back.
(I’ll let you know when H&M finally opens. I’m dying to have it here. DYING!)
25. June - 7:32 amYa know, you two could probably pass as sisters. I love that you two met up!!
xox
25. June - 8:46 amthat crabby lady on the bus is a god send if you happen to need to get from downtown to the top of first hill or any hill for that matter and she was prob just crabby cause she hates the airport route cause everybody complains
25. June - 12:53 pmDon’t move any further East. You will not encounter any of the things you are used to in Portland.
I keep quarters in my car only for meters in Chicago.
25. June - 1:35 pmNot that you would EVER want to come to Oklahoma but, sales tax is crazy here and they wouldn’t wave it for you if you were Jesus Christ himself.
25. June - 2:23 pmI see Isabel cleared a few things up. That’s good. We have more smart meters than old time ones and come 2009 the light rail system will be up and running.
I think Portland and Seattle are so close in proximity to afford the residents of both great cities the luxuries of each other. We both have perks!
25. June - 9:22 pmYou met Isabel, cool! You two look pretty in your picture.
26. June - 9:01 amYou have ALL THE J.CREW jackets I want. I swear.
And I love the Seattle airport. It is so quiet and peaceful.
