Zzzzzz

I never have trouble sleeping. I’m a championship napper and I can pretty much fall asleep the second I close my eyes. But, lately (as in ever since we moved) I’ve been waking up for one to two hour stretches in the middle of the night. Then, I’m wide awake at 5 a.m. Even on the weekends. And, because it’s all a vicious cycle, I’m usually asleep before 9 p.m. because I’m so tired from the night, er morning before.

Picture it…2 a.m. arrives. My eyes bolt open for one of the following 3 4 reasons:

  1. There’s some email at work I forgot to send, someone I forgot to call back or SOMETHING else that can wait until the morning is bothering me.
  2. My stomach hurts (I’ve self diagnosed myself with an ulcer, or a parasite as my stomach has hurt for a week now).
  3. There’s some wedding detail that must be dealt with RIGHT NOW. Last night, it was because I need a poofy skirt (what’s that called?) for under my dress and I don’t know where to get one.
  4. All of the above.

I sit up, angrily rearrange my pillows, sigh heavily (thus waking up Bill, because if I’m miserable, I like for him to be miserable too. KIDDING) and then lie awake forever and ever. And, all of the sudden, it’s time to get out of bed.

HELP ME, INTERNET! I need a full eight hours of sleep. In a row. Because sleepy Rhi is Crabby Rhi. And, nobody likes Crabby Rhi. Now, if you’ll excuse me, it’s 7 p.m. and I need to get ready for bed.

Gah, I wish I knew how to help you! I used to be a champion sleeper myself…And then I met my husband, who suffers from both insomnia and apnea.

Couple that with stupid stress-y things like work emails, etc., and I am up for two hour stretches in the middle of the night, as well. (Hey! Maybe we should get up and Gchat at 3AM!)

Seriously though, I find that if I don’t drink, I sleep much more soundly AND wake up early and refreshed. Unfortunately, I drink, oh, (almost) seven days a week, so that doesn’t really work.

My sister likes ambien, too. I just take benadryl.

Poofy skirt = petticoat or slip.

Seconding Shelli’s: poufy skirt = petticoat or slip.

David’s Bridal has them but they are crazy expensive there. Try Charlotte’s in Beaverton (on Beaverton-Hillsdale). They are super nice there and FAR more affordable than David’s Bridal (they are nicer there too). :)

I don’t know how to get back to sleep once I’ve woken up like that. I usually end up in a vicious cycle because I start to freak out over something and then I can’t sleep because I’m freaking out and then the fact that I can’t sleep freaks me out which keeps me awake and…lather rinse repeat. :)

I’m sorry you’re having sleeping troubles, babe. I have somewhat recently discovered that I feel like le crap if I get more than 5-6 hours of sleep. It sounds strange, but I just feel so sluggish if I don’t get up and out of bed pretty early.

I have tricks to get myself to fall asleep but none to help me stay there, as I don’t usually have trouble with that part. I hope you find something that works!

Also: Ambien is scary. I can tell you some crazy stories if you want to hear them. If you don’t, I shall keep my mouth le shut.

I have the exact same kind of insomnia. I find that I have to put those thoughts out of my mind to get myself back to sleep.I have to focus on positive thoughts.

Also, Magnesium. You can get it at the grocery store. I take 600 mg and it is totally healthy, no side – effects, it relaxes you.

Go to Kerri’s acupuncturist. I swear it will change your life. It sounds like you’re wound up over life stressers (very normal!) and need to realign your chi.

I realize how hippy that makes me sound but this is coming from a classic Type A stress case (ME!).

                  Benedryl or NyQuil.

Also, if you could borrow a petticoat, that would be ideal since they are pricey and you will never, ever wear it again.

You are not alone. I usually can’t sleep from 2-4 every night. First I start out being thirsty, so I drink some water. Then my mind drifts to work, and it spins and spins. Soon I have to pee from all the water I drank. Then, since my cat sees me moving around, thinks it is morning. Wanting his breakfast, he starts walking on my back and scratching my head trying to get me up. Eventually I doze back off and wake up for real at 5:30
