Friday Bullets

Oh, Friday…I am so happy to see you. This week has been…swell.

  • Last night we went to see the Decemberists at Edgefield, where it was apparently pregnant lady night. It was our third time seeing The Decemberists and our second time seeing them at Edgefield. As usual, they put on a great show. But, do you know what? I am too pregnant to watch a concert while sitting on a lawn.
  • Our house is finally all painted and it is LOVELY.  We bought new house numbers and a new light fixture to celebrate.
  • When someone is providing you a service and they are late, at what point do you call them? Basically, I’ve been waiting on our yard maintenance peeps for about 20 years and I’m wondering when to give them a stern talking to.
  • One year ago, I was just two days away from getting married. Part of me feels like we’ve already been married for ever and the other part of me feels like our wedding was yesterday.
  • You guys. I am at the end of my rope with my skin. My chin is so broken out that I don’t want to leave the house. Ever. It will go back to normal after the baby comes, right?
  • I’m a firm believer that there is no place for crying at work. If you’re mature enough to have a career, then you’re mature enough to keep your emotions in check. With that said, I have cried at work twice in my entire life. Once when I got laid off and once when I got the call that my grandma had passed away. Both of those instances are excusable. But, this week? I’ve cried twice. It’s SO, SO, SO stupid. Thankfully, I was working from home both these days, so I was not technically at work, but still. Crazy things are going on with my hormones right now and there are people making me crazy at work.
  • Okay, so I’ve now been waiting for the yard guys for 3 hours. I called and left a message. When do I call and demand my deposit back?
  • I have a conference call in a few, I bet they’ll show up then.
  • (I’m lunching now. In case you’re wondering why I’m writing during my work day)
  • I need honest, honest thoughts on the MamaRoo. I was going to get that and not get a swing, but I’ve been hearing it’s not that great. Do I just need to get a bouncer and a swing instead? This may sound silly, but part of the appeal of the MamaRoo is that it comes in black. I don’t want polka-dotted, jungle print, pink or blue, etc. baby gear all over my house.
  • I forgot to order anniversary cupcakes. Oops.

How Do You Take Care of Your Skin When You Have Zero “Me” Time?

I was pretty lucky in that I never really had acne as a teenager. I didn’t really have it in my 20s either. But, I swear to you, the second I turned 30, I developed adult acne. While I had a “system” for skin care in my 20s, I often went to bed without washing my face. Now that I’m in my 30s AND experiencing a nasty case of acne caused by my pregnancy, skin care is much more important to me. Now, I won’t lie to you. There are some crazy days where I get home late, inhale dinner and then fall asleep on the couch (okay, a lot of nights) and crawl up to bed without washing my face, taking my contacts out, etc. But, I hate how I feel when I wake up the next morning – eyes dry and skin just feeling grimy. So, I always try my best to wash my face before I go to sleep. Most nights, I use my Clarisonic. But, when I’m just too exhausted, I use pre-moistened cloths to remove my makeup and cleanse my face. They’re in the master bath, so I’m sure to walk right by them on my way to bed. Easy peasy!

How do you take care of your skin when you have zero “me” time? Let me know here in the comments and check out the responses from some other gals.
