Differences in Parenting Strategy

Apparently there are some things we need to work out before our baby arrives.

Like what an appropriate coloring book looks like…

Bill bought this. Um...

(Bill brought this home from Zim Zim, a super cute boutique in our neighborhood)

And, appropriate concert wear…

Scene: The Decemberists concert at Edgefield last month.

Me, after seeing two tweens with Decemberists t-shirts on: “Oh, those poor girls. Their mothers should have told them that it’s completely nerdy to wear a band’s t-shirt to see that band play.”

Bill: “You have to let kids make their own mistakes.”

Me: “So, are we supposed to watch and try not to laugh?”

(please note: I will not let me child EVER commit this wardrobe error. A wee Portlander should not make a mistake as grave as this.)

Friday Bullets. On a Tuesday.

  • You know, for a short week, this was sure a brutal one.
  • I’m trying to adopt the “Let Go, Move On” method of dealing with conflict, but it’s JUST SO HARD.
  • But! Though it was tough, this week was still great.
  • On Monday, we had our maternity shoot with Ashley Forrette and last night she posted some of our pictures on her blog. I LOVE how they turned out.
  • Though, my legs are VERY WHITE. What happened to my Costa Rica tan?
  • Oh, wow. It’s now Tuesday.
  • I’m 32 weeks pregnant today and I’m getting pretty uncomfortable. And, exhausted. On Sunday, I was basically just awake for meals.
  • Speaking of sleeping, I know that the left side is the ideal sleeping position for a pregnant lady, but I cannot do it anymore. I feel like my hip is being crushed when I sleep on that side. So, right side it is.
  • My darling husband was snoring this morning, waking me from my peaceful slumber at 4:15, so I was able to shop the Missoni for Target stuff before Target.com crashed. I refrained from buying the bike, but I did get some pretty cute stuff. Including a darling unionsuit for BoB, in the event that BoB is a girl.
  • I made this Tomato Pie last week using stuff from our garden and it was quite delicious. If you decide to make it (and you should), make sure to let the zucchini give up all it’s liquid first. I was impatient and didn’t do this – so I ended up with a watery pie. STILL DELICIOUS. (photo here)
  • We took Infant CPR on Saturday and wow, there was an interesting crowd in that class. Including a couple that showed up 20 minutes late with their very own infant.
  • Tomorrow we have our first childbirth preparation class. Then, we take newborn care and then breastfeeding basics. Basically, I signed up for all the classes.
  • LOOK HOW PRETTY MY DRY GOODS ARE!
  • I’m still perplexed over this bumper thing. Do I need to put a breathable bumper on my registry?
  • Oh, and have you been worried about my baby sock quandary? DO NOT WORRY. I bought all the gender neutral socks that Trumpette makes last week from Zulily. My child will not be a sockless hobo baby. PHEW.
  • Oh, one last thing. Does your baby sign? If so, do you have a book that you used to teach them? Recommendations welcome.
  • Enjoy your Tuesday!

The Best Parts of My Day

Last night before falling asleep, as I was snuggled into my beloved Boppy Body Pillow, I told Bill that laying down in bed had quickly become one of my favorite parts of the day. Followed by taking my bra off. Both of these items are OF COURSE behind seeing him after work. So, in no particular order, here are the best parts of this pregnant lady’s day.

  • The bowl of cereal I eat  the second I stumble downstairs in the morning. Because, MAN, I wake up hungry.
  • The point in the day when I can finally take my bra off. It seems so silly, but I think my entire body relaxes once that thing is gone.
  • Snuggling up with my body pillow.
  • The kicking and rolling that comes from Baby on Board once I settle down for the night.
  • Coming home from work and smelling something wonderful in the kitchen and then seeing the cute guy cooking that dinner.
  • Sitting on a bar stool in the kitchen with a cold glass of Pellegrino (soon to be replaced with wine) going over the day’s events with Bill.
So, tell me…what are the best parts of your day?
