Well, crap. It seems that I turn 30 in just one week. It also seems that I made myself a list of things to accomplish before I turned 30.
Lets review, shall we?
- Be in the escrow process for my very own home (I had wanted to be an official homeowner, but some stuff is going on with the permits, etc on the condo and escrow is a better bet). I blame this on the housing market. “Experts” and by experts I mean my friends think the market in Portland is far from the bottom. So, I shall bide my time and then buy something for a steal. Preferably in the Pearl District. Where I’m told there are no children.
- Retake the GRE so that I can apply to Graduate School. Turns out, my GRE Score is still valid, and quite good. I’ll keep it. I do need to secure some recommendations so that I can apply in February for admission to the UO Master’s of Professional Communication Program. (once a Duck, always a Duck).
- Play 18, fine 9 holes of golf with my dad (and have him roll his eyes at me under 20 times). My dad hurt is shoulder. Turns out he’s not Tiger Woods. I don’t know why he’s always trying to ruin my goals.
- Run a 5K (AND RUN THE ENTIRE TIME). I did one workout from Couch to 5K. GOOD ENOUGH. No, actually, we (the boy and I) are planning to run a 5k within the next 3 months or so. Shamrock Run, perhaps, because you can win your weight in beer. And, I’m very motivated by alcohol. Even if you don’t win, you get a free beer at the end. NOTHING TO SNEEZE AT.
- Knit a pair of socks – I started a pair of socks and then lost one of the knitting needles. I need either someone to send me (1) size 2 dpn in bamboo, or I need to find my rogue knitting needle.
- Sew something (ANYTHING) – I sewed a button on a dress. Then, the same day, another button fell off the same dress. I GIVE UP.
- Throw a dinner party, successfully – Have you been to my apartment? We’d have to eat in shifts. But, I bet I’ve cooked dinner for the boy at least 3 times since I made this list.
- Learn to actually USE that fancy camera I paid a lot of money for – No, but I did put the manual in my suitcase for when we went to Chicago.
- Learn new ways to manage my anxiety so that I can live without Effexor – I did this! I’ve been off Effexor for 2 months now. I bought the book the Mood Cure, and have placed it under my pillow in hopes that I will one day wake up knowing everything in the book.
- Visit a state I’ve never been to before (being in the airport does NOT count) – I did this too! I visited Rhode Island for a conference last month.
So, there you have it. Chances are I’ll not accomplish anything else on the list in the next week. Unless I add: Eat many dinners out, shop at J.Crew, complain about being hot, go to Holiday Ale Fest, and complain about STILL being hot. I think instead, I’ll just enjoy the last week of my twenties.

Plus a holiday ale fest?
Sounds like you’re going to have a great week.
Hooray for the goals you accomplished!
Now you can make a list of before 40 goals.

This is why I didn’t make a list before my 30th birthday. :)
You’ve done well! You deserve a present! Or a beer.

I’ll gladly give you one of my 4 GRE scores – not that any of them were great.

Hi! Just got back— we had a lot of fun, even though the weather was crummy for a large part of the vacation. So excited for your b-day party next Saturday! Do you have plans on the 10th? I’m assuming you and the boy will be dining out— if not, I’d love to take you for a HH birthday drink, or even a birthday lunch! Let me know how you are and what your bday plans entail. Lovies! xoxo
